It is no doubt that great images and a video presentation can help boost your vacation rental inquiries and reservations. Not convinced? Just think how many vacation rental listings are on the internet? What seperates yours from the rest? Go to any vacation rental directory and starting looking over the listings…do you spend even a split second looking at those without photos? Not me and not your visitors either! How about the listings with really grainy or outdated photos…how much time do you spend looking at those listings. Compare that to the time you spend on those that catch your eye! “Hey, look at this one with the Hot Tub with ocean views!” or “Wow this one looks really clean and modern.” Your goal should be to attract visitors with eye catching images and videos!
Keep in mind that people are visually stimulated – travelers are really looking for visual assurance. SHOW ME THE RENTAL! Of course you will want to help travelers with important descriptions, area info, maps and such – but images is what stops the reader in their tracks. Images and videos make your listing “sticky” – people want to keep looking at it and contact you.
YouTube your vacation home rentals! Making a video for your listings is easy. Most of the digital cameras on the market today have a video option. You can even narrate the video as you shoot it and give travelers views and tips. Your video should be no more than 5 minutes long. We have seen some owners video the drive up to the property, walking in the front door, room by room descriptions and then on to the backyard or special features, some include area attractions. You can get as professional as you like, but a simple video on your digital camera can be very effective marketing.
Not sure how to make a video presentation for your vacation rental – no problem – get help here at YouTube. Note: This video is a little goofy but it walks you thru the basics of making a video with a simple digital camera.
Once you have your YouTube video presentation uploaded you can link to it from your Furnishedhomes.com listing. Just input the URL link to your YouTube video in the free “link to your website” text box in the owner panel. If you already have a link to your website from Furnished Homes you can embed the video right on your personal site. Then when visitors view your vacation home at Furnished Homes they can just click on “View Owner Website” and they will see your rental website and your YouTube video. It’s surprising how easy it is to make a video for your home and it is a marketing tool that you can use over and over! You can even put your video link in your email responses to visitors - ”Be sure to click here to see my Vacation Rental Video!”
At the Furnishedhomes.com site you can add your website link, calendar link, guest reviews, 25 huge images for 6 months FREE – there is no catch. Hey there,
Very nice article. I agree that we live in the era that videos are absolutely essential in this business. People on Internet scan texts without reading them, so there should always be something that catches their attention.
Recently I wrote a blog post about the power of video in vacation rental industry. You can read it here: http://blog.rentalo.com/owners/2008/08/the-power-of-video-and-youtube-community-building/ . You can also see an example video from one of our property owners.
Enjoy!

I couldn’t agree more with your blog entry. There is no doubt that property videos offer potential renters a much better “inside” look at a property that they are considering renting. We have even created our own web site totally dedicated to vacation rental videos called Vacation Rental Clips that indexes vacation rental videos from all over the country. I would be interested in your feedback on our site! Please visit http://www.VacationRentalClips.com, or even easier, http://www.VRclips.com.
