Would you like Fries with Your Vacation Rental?

There’s plenty of online vacation rental websites and vacation rental directories out there vying to help put ”eyes” on your vacation home listings.  Currently, Furnished Homes does not put additional ads for car rentals, hotels, airline tickets and such along side your vacation rental listings. We think they will just cannibalize your listing?

We have posted our share of vacation rental ads on many Vacation Rental Sites.  Many claim to generate most, if not all of their income by click thru ads, banner ads and pop ups.  Nothing wrong with that at all - we offer advertising on our vacation rental blog.  The only thing that “bugs” me is that often my free ad is surrounded by so many other PPC (pay per click) ads that I can’t find my listing or find my way around the site!  Can’t help but think others are distracted by the ads and my listing is crowded out?

We think visitors prefer to see your gorgeous home in Panama City, Florida and NOT see an ad for 3 or 4 other products or click away ads surrounding it.  Too many opportunities for the visitor to “float” away from your listing to some other website entirely?  The exception we make is the ability for your listing to link to your personal website or calendar…..we do run the risk of visitors leaving the Furnished Homes site but we think it is helps solidify our relationship with you and the visitors. 

The ability to have visitors link to your personal site or availability calendar is very valuable.  For this reason we allow you to track in the owner panel how many referrals came from Furnishedhomes.com to your website.  It may be the case that a vacationer finds your rental at Furnished Homes, clicks to your personal website and makes a reservation directly through your contact form.  Unless you ask - you may never know that they really found your site from Furnishedhomes.com. 

Perhaps it is best for The Furnished Homes vacation rental site to stay focused on you and your vacation rentals.  “Your vacation rental, professionally portrayed, and an easy method for visitors to contact you direct.”  That’s it!  So far we’re not interested in selling rental cars, airline tickets or cell phones on the vacation rental site, maybe on the blog?  Who knows?  We hope travelers and vacation rental owners appreciate the difference.  If not, then we’ll have to re-evaluate and may start asking “Would you like fries with your vacation rental home?”  What do you think?  Let us know here - comment.

    You make some good points. Adwords will take visitors away from the site.
