Vacation Rental Blog - Got BLOG?

Prior to the mid 1800’s many would not be able to tell you that this image is that of a typewriter.  Just a few years back and very few people even knew what the terms blogging, weblog, blogger and blog referred to, let alone what the terms actually meant.  My stab at it would have been - “Blogging” - “Can I get the word origin? Can you repeat the word again?  Can you use it in a sentence?  OK - Blogging - Is this a type of punishment?  You did not finish your homework and therefore you will be Blogged? or Bloggera new type of beer developed in a small logging community in the extreme Northwestern United States?”

Of course not, a BLOG according to Wikipedia, is “a Web site, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.”  A blogger being the writer or contributor of content.  Perhaps you want a blog for your vacation rental home and you are not alone. Wikipedia states “As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112 million blogs!”

One of the best aspects of a blog is that it is “FREE” (not counting your time of course).  Weblog services offer some great tools for you to create a vacation rental blog.  You can find free providers by searching the term “Free Blogs” in your favorite Internet search engine.  A vacation rental blog for your furnished apartment, villa or beach house is pretty easy to create and you can convey a lot of helpful information to your guests and travelers worldwide.

If you are considering a blog for your vacation rental property you may want to consider who your audience is, what you will talk about, and if you can commit to adding content on a consistent and frequent basis.  Your blog can become a great marketing tool to drive visitors to your personal website or an additional link to listings that you have posted on vacation rental websites.  The blog is a great place for you to “elaborate” on your area attractions, allow visitors to see more about your property, more information about you as an owner and adds more credibility to your business.  Perhaps you can blog about area restaurants, local fishing holes, great family activities, museums and more.  Many bloggers find that blogging is therapeutic too!  Vacation Rental Blogging - check it out!

Great advice on starting up a blog John - I would advise anyone who is serious about getting traffic to do so. It is a great medium to get across a whole range of information about the area attractions and events.
My recommendation would be to start off with a Wordpress blog on a self hosted platform, rather than use their free option. This gives much more freedom to use plugins and of course you have your own domain name as well. I use Blue Host - there’s a link to it on my blog. The set-up is easy and they will even do it for you. It is worth the annual hosting fee.

Make sure you post regularly and over time you’ll get a loyal following. Just like I read every post John makes, and he follows my blog!

I agree that a blog is not only a great way to promote your vacation homes but also an enjoyable thing to do. There is a lot of scope about what you can write about - I have homes near Disney World so the subject matter is endless. It also lets your potential guests know that you stand out from the crowd in the care and professionalism you bring to your homes.

I am glad to have found your blog John. Via Heathers blog which I think is excellent too.

I adore blogging about my vacation rentals and my destination Tybee Island Georgia! I blog daily and have created quite a following of past and future guests!
