There is a place that is full of history that you can go to learn about the first English settlement in America that was permanent. From the time the settlers arrived in 1607 this town has been full of stories. The settlers were from London and sent over to Jamestown to establish a colony where they had nothing and struggled hard to make it. The exact location of the original voyage was found by scientists who are working today to find out what happened way back then. Captain John Smith helped the colony for a while but had to leave. After that the colony suffered through hard winters where they lost several of the original members. The remainder vowed that they were fed up and abandoned the colony as well. Years later, Lord De La Ware, the new governor, brought in supply ships and managed to get the colony up and running again. Pocahontas, the daughter of the Algonquian Chief Powhatan married John Rolfe here. During this time Jamestown had time to come together and become stronger as they made the town their home.
