Grand Canyon Arizona

January 20th, 2008 · No Comments

If you’re in the mood for something astonishing, spectacular or something that will take your breath away, the Grand Canyon is where you should visit. When everyday life becomes so monotonous, it seems like your schedule is always the same. The people are the same, you stare at your office, which looks the same every day, and the work you do it the same. Unfortunately, the same also means uninteresting and unexciting. You should then choose a holiday place that is striking and stunning. The Grand Canyon is a place that promises such excitement.

As one of the great natural wonders of the world, it is located in northern Arizona and is not difficult to get to. It is about 75 miles north of Flagstaff and the South Rim Visitor’s Center can be reached from Flagstaff in an hour and half hour, or from Las Vegas in five hours. When visiting the Grand Canyon, the South Rim Visitor Center is the most popular destination for tourists. The reason is because the best views can be enjoyed from this area; in addition it has the most facilities and is the most accessible when compared with the other North Rim Visitor Center. The most popular trail is also assessed at the South Rim; there are free shuttle buses that take tourists to the best spots. Be ready to be dazzled by the sights before you. Instead of a hotel, check out this great cabin rental in Flagstaff - it offers easy access to the Grand Canyon and Route 66.

Though the South Rim is more popular because of its accessibility, if adventure is what you’re out for then the North Rim is more wild and secluded. It is hard to get to and is only open from May through October and it located on the other side of the Canyon, on the Utah side. It is at an 8000 ft elevation and can only be reached by road. Because of its secluded position, it is a sensational place to camp, but advanced bookings are highly recommended.

The Grand Canyon consists of rock layers that are nearly a mile deep. The sedimentary deposits accumulated at the bottom of a vast sea long ago, later the entire region needed to be raised up thousands of feet because of a collision of tectonic plates. It is now 7000 to 9000 feet above sea level. The rock formation continued to develop as the Colorado River eroded the layers. The spectacular result can now be viewed from different vantage points around the Grand Canyon.

For an adventure that is a little different and to enjoy the canyon having a unique viewpoint is to take a mule ride down. These mule rides go right down into the canyon and either stay the night or come back after half a day. The ride down is both thrilling and wondrous as you find yourself immersed in the layers of sedimentary deposits. All who take these rides speak highly of the experience. Therefore, if you are interested in this unique experience you will have to book the mule ride many months in advance. The suitable words to describe the Grand Canyon are: thrilling, breathtaking, dramatic and magnificent. A trip to the Grand Canyon will fulfill the yearning for a spectacular holiday.
