When one thinks of the South, undoubtedly, what comes to mind is good old-fashioned hospitality and sweet tea, and the Peach State is no exception. Whether you’re after a nice day at the beach, a country getaway, or a trek in the city, Georgia will fill your needs.
The quintessential family vacation is the trip to the beach, complete with the picnic basket, the beach towels, and the sunscreen. You can find all that and more at “Georgia’s Jewel,” Jekyll Island. Located right off the coast, Jekyll Island offers your typical beach amenities, along with a historic district, walking and bike trails to explore, and Summer Waves, an 11-acre water park that’s sure to impress the kids.
Sometimes you just need to get away, and the Northeast Georgia Mountains offer that perfect place. Whether you rent a cabin in the woods, stay at a quaint inn, or take a room at a resort, there is plenty to do once you get out and explore. Most of the mountains are part of Chattahoochee National Forest, and gives you plenty of outdoor adventures to take part in. Hiking trails, hunting, fishing, paddling, horseback riding, with scenic views and waterfalls galore: whatever your fancy, you’ll find it.
Classic southern hospitality, as well as history and architecture can be found in the cozy city of Savannah. Located on the coast of Georgia, Savannah offers plenty to see and do, whether you want to explore the historic houses and forts, go window shopping, or visit the botanical garden of Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens. Famous television personality Paula Deen offers you home-style southern comfort at her restaurant The Lady and Sons, and deep in the historic district, you can take a stroll through the many Squares of Savannah.
If you love big cities, Atlanta, as the largest city in Georgia, will definitely prove a great vacation spot. Whether you’re looking for music, sports, fashion, or history, you’ll find it all in “Hotlanta.” You could visit Fox Theatre, a movie theater built in 1929, which now hosts ballets, films, and Broadway shows. Catch a Braves baseball game at Turner Field, check out the World of Coca-Cola, or visit the CNN center. Your best bet for shopping and entertainment is Underground Atlanta, located in downtown Atlanta, full of retail shops and restaurants, and if it’s nightlife you’re after, Kenny’s Alleys offers plenty of bars, open until four a.m., for all of the night-owls. For those that are traveling with kids in tow, Atlanta offers plenty of attractions to pack your vacation days with. Atlanta plays host to the Georgia Aquarium, the world’s largest aquarium, and just west of Atlanta in Austell is Six Flags over Georgia. If you’re visiting Atlanta, you’ll definitely need a place to stay. While it’s more expensive, staying in the heart of Atlanta will keep you close to all of the attractions. The city offers such luxury accommodations as the Sheraton Atlanta, the Omni Hotel at the CNN Center, and the Westin Atlanta. Wherever you stay, a trip to Atlanta will definitely give you plenty of options for fun things to do.
Whatever you’re after, Georgia has it all waiting to be found. Once there, you’re sure to always have Georgia on your mind.
